Coalition for Health AI Announces New Board Member

Physician Leader and Healthcare Expert Dr. Kyu Rhee Brings Vital Perspective of Rural and Underserved Populations to the Coalition

WASHINGTON — Feb. 4, 2025 — Today the Coalition for Health AI (CHAI) announced Dr. Kyu Rhee, MD, MPP, President and CEO of the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) as the non-profit’s newest board member. NACHC is the leading association that advocates for the nation’s Community Health Centers (CHCs), which serve 32.5 million patients in rural, urban, suburban, frontier and mountain communities nationwide.

“I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Rhee to CHAI’s board of directors today,” said Dr. Brian Anderson, MD, President and CEO of CHAI. “He is an accomplished leader with substantial expertise in public health, primary care, and representation of underserved populations. We look forward to launching new efforts focused on responsible AI playbooks for Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and safety-net clinics across the country, informed by Dr. Rhee’s valuable perspective grounded in community-based, rural healthcare.”

Prior to joining NACHC, Dr. Rhee served as Senior Vice President & Aetna Chief Medical Officer at CVS Health, where he led a team of over 1,500 doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other health professionals in the integration and delivery of clinical and population health solutions to improve health for up to 65 million people. Dr. Rhee also served as the Chief Health Officer of IBM for a decade, where he led global responsibilities for IBM’s efforts to transform health through the use of data, analytics, AI, services, and research for providers, health plans, employers, governments, and life science companies.

Dr. Rhee joins the CHAI board of directors with a deep background of working in the public sector as well, notably as a National Health Service Corps physician and the Chief Medical Officer for Community Health Centers (CHCs) in the Washington, DC/Baltimore area. He served as Chief Resident and completed his medical residency training in internal medicine & pediatrics at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with dual-board certification. Dr. Rhee earned his MD from University of Southern California, his Masters in Health Policy from Harvard University, and his Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University.
